Monday 22 January – Friday 26 January 2018
Freshly painted Ida Railway Hut
Originally a railway station in the Ida Valley, this gem was relocated to be used as a high country mustering hut. It oozes character, and provides an opportunity for you to stay and enjoy the vast landscape of golden tussock and changing light.
Volunteers will work with DOC staff on routine hut maintenance. Tasks will include painting the interior and exterior of the hut, cleaning and minor building repairs.
What to expect
Fitness/skills: Low to medium. The work involves climbing ladders and scaffold so you must be agile and comfortable with heights.
Accommodation: As the work will involve painting the inside of the hut, volunteers will need to camp and must bring a tent.
Pickup/drop off location: Meet at the DOC Office, 43 Dunstan Road, Alexandra at 9.00 am on Monday 22 January, returning to the same location at 4.30 pm on Friday 26 January.
Cost: $125 per person - contribution towards food and transport.
What to bring
A full equipment list and information pack will be issued prior to the commencement of the activity.
