Volunteers will be working alongside the DOC Barberry Team to control weeds around the Oban township. DOC manages several weed species in this area, to prevent their spread into the Rakiura National Park.

The main task will be controlling barberry which is highly invasive, by doing grid-searches and cutting and pasting each plant. One day will be spent travelling to Port William/Potirepo on the DOC boat Hananui and walking back on the Rakiura Track conducting a weed search.

The week will provide an excellent introduction to ‘on the ground’ conservation work and will help the local environment.

What to expect
